Understanding PPO plans

A PPO (preferred provider organization) plan is a Medicare Advantage plan offered by approved private insurers, like MyTruAdvantage. PPO plans are known for offering additional choices and flexibility and when compared to other Medicare Advantage plans, including HMO (health maintenance organization) plans.

Here are a few key details about PPO plans to consider when deciding if a PPO plan is right for you.

Network flexibility
PPO plans give you the freedom to receive care from any provider who accepts Medicare—regardless of if they are in or out of your plan’s network.

PPO plans do not require you to choose a primary care physician (PCP). This may be important if you have doctors you prefer, and they are not in your plan’s network.

And, like many Medicare Advantage plans, referrals are not needed to see a specialist.

Higher costs
PPO plans give you more choices when it comes to your healthcare, but this flexibility does come at a cost. Your copays for office visits will typically cost more when selecting a provider outside of the network. Your annual deductible, which is the amount you need to pay before your plan starts to pay for certain medical services or drugs, can be higher, as well. And PPO plans will usually have a higher monthly premium.

Remember that using in-network providers and specialists can save you money and maximize your plan benefits, even with the additional flexibility offered by PPO plans.

Is a PPO plan right for you?
A PPO plan, like the MyTruAdvantage Choice (PPO) plan, can be a good option for you if you want more control over your choices and additional flexibility. It has a $0 medical deductible and can also be helpful if you travel or spend part of the year away from home, since you would not have to choose from a specific network or select a primary care physician.

Simply having the freedom to be able to choose any Medicare provider, if needed, is often worth any additional cost for many who select PPO plans.

And with additional benefits not covered by Original Medicare, including prescription coverage, dental, hearing and vision coverage, as well as extras like gym memberships, OTC allowances and more, a PPO plan like the MyTruAdvantage Choice (PPO) plan offers you the benefits you need, with the flexibility you’re looking for, at a price you can afford.
